Best Off The Rack Pipe?
Hey, on my way in to work today I was appreciating my third best non-TRG pipe. I think I have mentioned before that my favorite two are a Savinelli Autograph and a high-grade Nording. I would not consider them really "off the rack," though, since they are kind of high dollar new. My third favorite, though, a Stanwell horn, is both inexpensive and highly reliable. Had a great smoke with some Peterson Irish Wiskey tobacco that was a gift from my secretary (oh, sorry, "administrative assistant").
Re: Best Off The Rack Pipe?
I've got a blasted Brebbia bulldog that is evolving into a great "reach for" pipe. When I first got it I wasn't too happy with it, partly because it wasn't the exact pipe I ordered and partly because there was a gap in the heel. A little pipe mud and a bunch of smokes later, it's becoming near and dear. In fact, the draught is open enough and it smokes cool enough that I'll most likely take another risk on a Brebbia in the future.

I always used to smoke Stanwells and Pete's. I found them to be quite consistant in smokablity (is that even a word?) Unfortunately, they are both being made at the CHACOM works in France now, so it is hard to say what they will be like. For an all round Tacklebox/Yard pipe you still can't beat one of the old Grabows.

Cob all the way... It works better with a Walker Stem... But any MM Cob will do...

I don't have a Stanwell, but I do have a Dr. G. and a couple of MM Cobs.
But, as for Off the Rack pipe... which ever one I grab is the one that suits me.

Oops sorry slipped.

This Stanwell would be my fav non TRG smoker. Simple little pipe, but it smokes great. I picked it up cheap too. Other than that it's an MM cob (Thanks again PhiL)

My little Walker nosewarmer cob smokes great and I love all 3 of my Nording freehands but I snagged this Jirsa for cheap on a trip to Salt Lake City and it has been a great pipe from the first bowl.

In this case, I'd probably go for a Peterson. (Cassandra, that is.)

I watch her on Saturday nights and in costume, she's still as gropeable as 1985. She'll be sixty in September.

Hell, at 52 years old, she is just now figuring out how to use it properly! Still, kinda skinny for my taste!

Just found this thread
and wish I had a good pic of Morgan Fairchild. She has always captured me and I'm sure she is well in her 60s now.
I notice all the Stanwell smokers. I will post mine on Flickr.. some beauties I would trade for Italian or American made pipes.
